He is considered the most significant hymnographer in the Syriac tradition earning him the title The Harp of the Spirit. His words still touch us till this day, some of which we recite at every Wednesday’s vigil prayer, saying: I, Ephraim, am dying and writing my will, so that it may be a testimony to the disciples who come after me: Be always in prayer day and night, like the farmer who sows and cultivates the best of his crop. Do not be like the lazy ones whose fields sprout thistles. Be steadfast in prayer, for he who loves it much, will be helped by it in both worlds.
